Codify Roe

The issue of abortion is always top of mind for Oklahoma voters. I myself have come a long way on my understanding of the issue.

The goal of reducing the number of abortions is a noble one, and one I intend to pursue. Making this very valid medical procedure illegal, however, I will oppose utterly.

As a medical professional, I recognize that there are many situations that lead us to decisions with no good answers. If a woman decides that she does not continue to consent to move forward with one of the most life threatening medical events in their lifetime, for any reason, I will support that decision.

What is particularly egregious is the circumstance we have manufactured where women who have lost viability are being denied access to life saving care and dying of sepsis in front of medical professionals as they consult law books rather than medical texts.

If I were to have someone request I donate blood or a kidney, I could choose to undergo this giving of my own body for their benefit. Should I remove my consent before the procedure and walk away, I would be within my rights. So too is a woman within her rights to govern her own body in revoking her consent to carry on with a pregnancy. I intend to advocate for her full rights to bodily autonomy when elected to serve as Senator while also doing everything in my power to see that the resources to live a life free from unwanted and unintended pregnancy.
